Terms of Service

Last Updated: August 24, 2026

This app is powered by AI, and AI can make mistakes.

TaxplAIn uses artificial intelligence (large language models) to explain taxes and to help organize your information. AI can be wrong: it may misread a rule, use an out-of-date figure, or generate confident-sounding answers that are incorrect. Everything TaxplAIn gives you is an educational estimate, not tax advice, and not a filed return.

Always verify numbers against official IRS sources (IRS.gov) and consult a qualified tax professional (CPA, Enrolled Agent, or tax attorney) before you file or make a tax decision. TaxplAIn also does not yet support every tax situation, see Section 9 (What We Support) for what we do and don't handle.

1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement made between you and OptimAIze LLC concerning your access to and use of the TaxplAIn website and service.

BY ACCESSING OR USING THE SERVICE, YOU AGREE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND AGREED TO BE BOUND BY ALL OF THESE TERMS. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ALL OF THESE TERMS, THEN YOU ARE EXPRESSLY PROHIBITED FROM USING THE SERVICE AND YOU MUST DISCONTINUE USE IMMEDIATELY.

2. Our Mission & What We're Building

Our Mission

TaxplAIn exists for one purpose: to make taxes understandable. We believe everyone deserves to know how their money flows through the tax system, without needing a degree in accounting.

What We Do Best: We evaluate your unique financial situation and explain what it means in plain English. Think of us as your tax translator, turning IRS jargon into concepts you can actually use.

Platform Status: Beta

TaxplAIn is currently in active beta. That means we're continuously improving, testing, and expanding our capabilities based on user feedback and real-world usage.

What this means for you:

Experimental Features

Some features you see are experimental previews of where we're headed. These include:

These tools are an added benefit to help you visualize and explore. Our core mission remains: helping you understand your taxes. The primary goal of TaxplAIn is to explain and simplify tax concepts, any tools are supplementary to that educational purpose.

Our Vision

We're building toward a future where understanding your taxes is as easy as asking a question. Today's experimental features are stepping stones to that vision. As we grow, we plan to expand our educational offerings, improve accuracy, and add new tools, always with the goal of making taxes less intimidating for everyone.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Your patience with our beta status and your feedback directly shape the product we're building.

3. EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY - NOT PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

5. Forms Feature - Beta Disclaimer

PRELIMINARY BETA FEATURE

The Tax Forms feature that displays filled-in form details is in extremely preliminary beta and is provided for educational preview purposes only.

By using the Forms feature, you acknowledge its beta status and agree that you will verify all form data with a qualified tax professional before filing any tax returns.

6. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY (0% LIABILITY)

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS-IS" AND "AS-AVAILABLE" BASIS. WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, REGARDING THE ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF THE AI-GENERATED CONTENT. YOU ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY AND RISK FOR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. WE ACCEPT 0% LIABILITY FOR ANY OUTCOMES RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THIS TOOL.

7. AI Limitations & Data Sources

You acknowledge that this Service uses large language models (LLMs) which are prone to "hallucinations" (generating plausible-sounding but incorrect information). The AI may misinterpret tax codes, cite non-existent regulations, or provide outdated figures. All AI-generated content is for educational purposes only. You are solely responsible for verifying all output against official IRS sources (IRS.gov) and consulting with qualified tax professionals before making any tax-related decisions.

Data Sources & Accuracy Notice:

The information provided by this Service is curated from publicly available sources for educational purposes. While we strive to maintain accuracy, the information may not be 100% accurate, complete, or current.

IMPORTANT:

You should verify all information with official IRS sources (IRS.gov) and consult with a qualified tax professional (CPA, Enrolled Agent, or Tax Attorney) before making any tax-related decisions or filing tax returns.

8. How We Calculate Estimates

Educational Calculation Methodology

Our tax estimates are generated using simplified calculations based on publicly available IRS guidelines. These are approximations for educational purposes only, designed to help you understand how tax calculations work.

At a high level, we calculate educational estimates using:

ACCURACY DISCLAIMER

The numbers shown in our visualizations (Money Flow Simulation, Optimization Analysis, Tax Report) are estimates for educational purposes only. They may not accurately reflect your actual tax situation due to:

  • Simplified calculation methods that don't account for all tax scenarios
  • Missing information from your questionnaire responses
  • State-specific rules and deductions we may not fully model
  • Complex tax situations (AMT, foreign income, passive losses, etc.)
  • Recent tax law changes not yet reflected in our system

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO

Always consult with a qualified CPA, Enrolled Agent, or Tax Attorney before making any tax decisions or filing your tax return. Use TaxplAIn to learn and explore tax concepts to better understand how taxes work, but rely on professionals for actual tax filing and planning.

9. What We Support, and Only These

So you know before you pay: TaxplAIn provides limited educational estimates (not tax advice, and not a filed return) only for the situations listed below. If your situation is not one of these, TaxplAIn is not built for it yet, please use a qualified tax professional.

Supported (as a limited estimate)

  • W-2 job income, Single, Married Filing Jointly or Separately, Head of Household, or Qualifying Surviving Spouse; with standard or itemized deductions (SALT, mortgage, charitable, medical)
  • Families, dependents, Child Tax Credit, Credit for Other Dependents, childcare, Earned Income Credit, and education credits
  • Retirement income, Social Security, pensions, and IRA/401(k) distributions
  • Investments, interest, dividends, and stock or crypto capital gains (current year)
  • Gig work, rideshare, delivery, online selling, and similar, with expenses
  • Freelance / 1099 self-employment (sole proprietor), with itemized Schedule C expenses and the QBI deduction below the income threshold
  • Small business (sole proprietor), including inventory (cost of goods sold) and equipment (Section 179)
  • Multiple businesses / side hustles (sole proprietor), one Schedule C each, with losses netting across them
  • Rental property

Everything else is not supported

If your situation isn't on the supported list above, TaxplAIn is not built for it yet. This includes, among others:

  • Schedule K-1 income from S-corporations, partnerships, or trusts (we can flag it, but we do not calculate it)
  • More than one business, and full business returns (1120, 1120-S, 1065)
  • Non-resident / dual-status returns (Form 1040-NR) and ITIN-specific situations
  • Farm income (Schedule F), clergy/minister pay, and household-employer (nanny) tax
  • Prior-year carryovers (capital-loss, net operating loss, passive-loss)
  • Estate and gift tax, and prior-year amendments
  • Equity compensation, with one limit. We DO calculate the ordinary-income portion of an ESPP discount, the tax treatment of an incentive stock option (ISO) disposition, and the Alternative Minimum Tax that exercising options can trigger. We also use the vest-date value as the cost basis for an RSU sale, rather than the $0 many brokers report. What we do NOT calculate is the credit for minimum tax you paid in an earlier year, which usually returns to you in later years: that means your refund may be larger than the figure we show, and it is worth asking a tax professional about.
  • State returns where more than one state is involved. This covers part-year residency (you moved during the year) and working in a different state from the one you live in. Each state taxes its own slice of your year, and we do not divide your income between them. Your federal estimate is unaffected. As of September 2026 we no longer ask for your move dates or your previous state, because we were collecting details we do not use; we flag the situation instead so you know to handle the state side separately.

For any of these, please use a qualified tax professional. During the free questionnaire we detect and flag two of them directly, so you know before you subscribe: Schedule K-1, and owing tax to more than one state (whether you moved during the year or you live in one state and work in another).

The five supported filing statuses in detail:

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

All tax estimates provided by TaxplAIn are estimates for educational purposes only and should not be used for actual tax filing. These estimates:

  • Are based on simplified calculations and may not reflect your complete tax situation
  • May change based on your personal circumstances, additional income sources, deductions, and credits
  • Do not account for all possible tax scenarios, state-specific rules, or recent tax law changes
  • Should be verified with a qualified tax professional (CPA, Enrolled Agent, or Tax Attorney) before making any tax decisions

You must verify all calculations with a qualified tax professional and consult with a CPA or tax advisor before filing your tax return. TaxplAIn is not a substitute for professional tax advice.

We prioritize your privacy by designing our system to be transient.

13. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless, including our subsidiaries, affiliates, and all of our respective officers, agents, partners, and employees, from and against any loss, damage, liability, claim, or demand made by any third party due to or arising out of your use of the Service or your reliance on any information provided by the Service.

  • 24-hour access from time of purchase.
  • Full access to toolkit. Up to 100 questions answered.

Why We Have a No-Refund Policy

We understand no-refund policies can be frustrating, but we ask for your understanding:

  • GPU Costs: Each query uses expensive GPU resources. Our AI models run on high-performance GPUs that cost significantly more than traditional servers.
  • R&D Investment: We continuously invest in improving accuracy, adding features, and keeping up with tax law changes.
  • Server & Maintenance: Keeping the service fast, reliable, and secure requires ongoing infrastructure costs.
  • Fair Pricing: The Day Pass is priced so you can test the service for a day rather than commit to anything longer.

We appreciate your support in helping us build a sustainable service!
